Program Objective: To prepare students for employment in a variety of health care settings as entry level coder, medical record coder, coding technician, coding clerks, medical coder/biller or medical records and health information technicians.
Program Description: This program includes instructor-led classroom, practice in a skills lab and hands-on application. Courses are designed to teach medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, coding systems, fundamentals of disease process including pharmacology, health care delivery systems, basics of medical records services, ethical and legal responsibilities, safety/security procedures, basic data processing, and employability skills.

The Medical Billing and Coding Specialist really must be very specific in telling the whole story of the patient’s encounter with the physician or medical facility to assure that the correct reimbursement for services rendered is requested.
What do MBCS do?
- Transfers healthcare diagnosis, procedures, and medical services into reimbursement codes
- Review, interpret, and process important medical documents.
- Ensures codes are assigned correctly using CPT®, ICD-10-CM, and HCPCS Level II
- Ensure accurately assigned codes for billing and reimbursement purposes.
- Work as liaison between health provider and billing offices
- Verifies care provided for coding purposes.
- Appeals of denied claims.
On the other side, medical billers and Coding Specialist process and follow up on claims or invoices sent to health insurance companies for reimbursement of medical services provided by the healthcare provider.- Process and follow up with insurance company claims.
- Review and interpret medical billing documents.
- Submits invoices/bills to insurance companies and other payers.
- Communicates constantly with insurance and healthcare professionals.
- Processes various payments.
- Various Collections procedures
