Course Description:
This comprehensive 30-hour Behavioral Health Technician (BHT) training program prepares students with the foundational knowledge, practical skills, and professional competencies required to work in behavioral health settings across Florida. Aligned with Florida Certification Board (FCB) standards, this course is designed for individuals seeking entry-level positions in substance use and mental health treatment environments.
Students will gain an in-depth understanding of addiction, co-occurring disorders, trauma-informed care, and the role of the BHT within a multidisciplinary treatment team. The course emphasizes real-world application, including observation and reporting, effective communication, crisis intervention, and professional documentation.
Special focus is given to Florida-specific laws such as the Baker Act and Marchman Act, as well as recovery models including the 12 Steps. Students will also learn how to recognize and respond to domestic violence, ethical dilemmas, and boundary issues in clinical settings.
Through scenario-based learning, practical exercises, and a final competency exam, students will develop the skills necessary to safely and effectively support clients in behavioral health programs.
