This course is required for any unlicensed person assisting residents of an assisted living facility (ALF) or home care with their medications in the state of Florida. This course covers legal and regulatory principles, medication assistance techniques, documentation requirements and more. Certification upon course completion. Cost – $75

RENEWAL ONLY! For those who have already completed the initial 4 hour training in Florida. Florida law requires all persons who assist residents with self-administered medications to complete 2 hours of continuing education in this field. This course meets those requirements. Phlebotomy Technician

Program Objective: The objective of this program is to prepare students for employment as phlebotomy technicians.

Program Description: The program content includes communication, leadership, human relations, and employability skills; performance of safe and efficient work practices in obtaining adequate and correct blood specimens by capillary or venipuncture on adults, children and neonates; maintaining the integrity of the specimen in relation to the test to be performed; preparing blood smears; labeling specimens accurately and completely; collecting timed specimens; promoting the comfort and well-being of the patient while performing blood collecting duties; observing safety policies and procedures; medical terminology; emergency procedures including CPR (Heart saver); delivering a variety of clinical specimens to the clinical laboratory; sorting and recording specimens received in the laboratory; centrifuging specimens and preparing aliquots of samples according to the designated protocol; distributing samples to appropriate laboratory sections; and preparing collection trays for specimen procurement.

Hemodialysis Technician

Program Objective: The objective of this program is to prepare the student with the necessary skills for employment such as hemodialysis tech or dialysis tech.

Program Description: The Hemodialysis technician includes but is not limited to communication and interpersonal skills, legal and ethical responsibilities, renal health- illness concepts, hemodialysis skills, emergency procedures including CPR and first aid, safety and security procedures, medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, and employability skills. Hemodialysis technicians focus on two different capacities, one being the assembly of the equipment as well as the maintenance of the equipment and the second focus of the Hemodialysis Technician is on patient care.

Medical Billing & Coding Specialist

Program Objective: To prepare students for employment in a variety of health care settings as entry level coder, medical record coder, coding technician, coding clerks, medical coder/biller or medical records and health information technicians.

Program Description: This program includes instructor-led classroom, practice in a skills lab and hands-on application. Courses are designed to teach medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, coding systems, fundamentals of disease process including pharmacology, health care delivery systems, basics of medical records services, ethical and legal responsibilities, safety/security procedures, basic data processing, and employability skills.

What do Medical Billing and Coding Specialist do?

The Medical Billing and Coding Specialist really must be very specific in telling the whole story of the patient’s encounter with the physician or medical facility to assure that the correct reimbursement for services rendered is requested.
What do MBCS do?

Transfers healthcare diagnosis, procedures, and medical services into reimbursement codes
Review, interpret, and process important medical documents.
Ensures codes are assigned correctly using CPT®, ICD-10-CM, and HCPCS Level II
Ensure accurately assigned codes for billing and reimbursement purposes.
Work as liaison between health provider and billing offices
Verifies care provided for coding purposes.
Appeals of denied claims.

On the other side, medical billers and Coding Specialist process and follow up on claims or invoices sent to health insurance companies for reimbursement of medical services provided by the healthcare provider.

Process and follow up with insurance company claims.
Review and interpret medical billing documents.
Submits invoices/bills to insurance companies and other payers.

Patient Care Technician

Program Objective: To cross-train students for employment in allied healthcare professions.

Program Description: The Patient Care Technician program includes instruction in various procedures related to the hospital and home health environments. This program offers abroad foundation of knowledge and skills, expanding the traditional role of the nursing assistant, for both acute and long-term care settings. The program focuses on broad, transferable skills and stresses understanding and demonstration of the following elements of the health care industry, planning, management, finance, technical and production skills, underlying principles of technology, labor issues, community issues and health, safety, and environmental issues.

Certified Nursing Assistant (C.N.A)
Patient Care Technician (PCT)

What do Patient Care Technicians do?

Patient Care Technicians provide basic healthcare to patients staying in a hospital or other medical facility. They’ll keep the patients’ rooms clean, sanitized and orderly each day. Patient Care Technicians will regularly visit patients to monitor their health and vital signs, administer medications prescribed by Nurses or Physicians, provide emotional support before and after treatments and assist patients in completing basic tasks like eating, using the restroom or grooming themselves. They’ll typically assist Physicians or Nurses during treatments and will explain treatment methods and prescribed medications to the patient and their family. If the Patient Care Technician notices any changes in the patient’s health after the treatment, they’ll notify the Physician or Nurse.

Employment Outlook

Overall employment of nursing assistants and orderlies is projected to grow 5 percent from 2021 to 2031, about as fast as the average for all occupations. About 220,200 openings for nursing assistants and orderlies are projected each year, on average, over the decade. Many of those openings are expected to result from the need to replace workers who transfer to different occupations or exit the labor force, such as to retire.

Home Health Aide

Program Objective: To train students and provide the necessary skills to seek employment in Assisted Living Facilities and Home Health Agencies.
Program Description: This program includes instructor-led classroom and hands-on application or practice in a skills lab. Students must successfully complete daily quizzes, weekly tests, and a final exam in order to graduate from this program. An HIV/AIDS is taught during this program. Upon completion of this course students will receive a certificate verifying the requirement has been met

What do Home Health Aide’s do?

Home health and personal care aides typically do the following:

Assist clients in their daily personal tasks, such as bathing or dressing
Perform housekeeping tasks, such as laundry, washing dishes, and vacuuming
Help to organize a client’s schedule and plan appointments.
Arrange transportation to doctors’ offices or other outings
Shop for groceries and prepare meals to meet a client’s dietary specifications
Keep clients engaged in their social networks and communities

Home health aides may provide some basic health-related services—such as checking a client’s pulse, temperature, and respiration rate—depending on the state in which they work. They also may help with simple prescribed exercises and with giving medications. Occasionally, they change bandages or dressings, give massages, care for skin, or help with braces and artificial limbs. With special training, experienced home health aides also may help with medical equipment, such as ventilators to help clients breathe. Home health aides are supervised by medical practitioners, usually nurses, and may work with therapists and other medical staff. These aides keep records on the client, such as services received, condition, and progress. They report changes in the client’s condition to a supervisor or case manager.

Employment Outlook

Employment of home health and personal care aides is projected to grow 25 percent from 2021 to 2031, much faster than the average for all occupations. About 711,700 openings for home health and personal care aides are projected each year, on average, over the decade. Many of those openings are expected to result from the need to replace workers who transfer to different occupations or exit the labor force, such as to retire. The services that home health and personal care aides provide will be in high demand to care for the rising number of older people. The locations in which care is offered are affected by both policy changes and lifestyle preferences of older adults and people with disabilities. Long-term care services are increasingly shifting from institutional settings, such as nursing homes, to home- and community-based settings. This shift is expected to create many new jobs for home health and personal care aides.
